Thoughts about: Face Q Luffa + Adlay Mask

Standard

What do ‘My Beauty Diary’ and ‘Face Q’ have in common?

Both brands are actually created by the same Taiwan company, President Pharmaceutical Corp.

The Face Q range involves the usage of unique hydrogel micro-emulsion technology and emphasizes the use of natural herbal formulas in their masks. Let’s see how natural it is!

Many of us would have encountered luffa in our kitchen/bathroom, but Adlay?

Adlay/Adlai is actually Job’s Tear’s, or Coixseed, which is rather well-known for its whitening properties.

Here’s the Description (taken off from Sasa.com)
Face Q Luffa +Adlay Mask is a mask with both calming and whitening effect. Enriched with natural luffa extract, the active enzyme can remove dirt and impurities in your skin, enhance skin metabolism. Barley extract can also soften skin, leaving your skin smooth and supple after use.

Ingredients

1,3-Butylene Glycol, Aloe Vera, Algae, Allantoin, Placenta, Trehalose, Dishcloth Gourd Extract, Gentiana Flower Extract, Coix Lacryma-Jobi Mayuen Seed Extract, Bromelain, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Glycerine, Heptapeptide, Catechins, Acetyl Glucosamine, Ceramide, y-PGA, White Tea Extract, Exclusive Cellular Complex, Hamamelis virginia extract, RNA/DNA complexe, Hyaluronic Acid, Mucopolysaccharides, Yeast Complexe, Albumin, Licorice Extract, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Dimethicone, Purified Water.

What an impressive list of ingredients! 1,3-Butylene Glycol is not natural. And yes, there’s placenta in it. Do not be too alarmed! It’s actually plant placenta for skin rejuvenation. Speaking of placenta, I’ve heard of people eating human placenta in the past due to the large amount of nutrients in it. Eeks…?? Oh, and doesn’t Exclusive Cellular Complex sounds really exclusive? La Prairie also has their patented Exclusive Cellular Complex.

Directions

Unfold the mask, and remove the pearl paper from it. Apply the mask on thoroughly cleansed face, for 15-20 mins. Remove the mask and pat lightly until a the excess serum has been absorbed. Rinsing is unnecessary. You may want to follow-up with a moisturizing lotion or cream. Use 1-3 times a week.

Suitable for all skin types. Recommended for dull, dry & dehydrated skin.

Overall experience

I like the fit of this mask better than My Scheming Beauty’s and Silk Whitia’s. It was also better in terms of the scent – there was only this faint scent in the mask which didn’t bother me. It’s good to know that ‘parfum’,’perfume’ or ‘fragrance’ wasn’t in the ingredient list. It was adequately soaked with essence, and left my skin feeling soft and sufficiently hydrated. It wasn’t that much of a hydration booster though. I also saw a significant lightening effect in my skin with this mask, which was however, temporal (about 1 hr or so?). Did I also mention that it doesn’t irritate my face? I think I’m starting to like Face Q although it isn’t entirely natural.

Alright, I think I’ll give this mask a 4/5 and I’ll go through the other series of Face Q masks before deciding if I should repurchase this.

What about you? What’s your favourite sheet mask to date?

It’s B-R-T-C Gold Caviar BB Cream!

Standard

I wasn’t at all enticed by caviar until after watching Jen’s video, when I decided that I should try some on my face too. Great idea?

As usual, I went to get samples from TheSampleStore.sg first …

If you’re wondering, I’ve previously tried and reviewed 2 other BRTC BB creams HERE. My experience with BRTC hasn’t been exactly pleasant so I wasn’t really expecting much from this. All I wished for was that it won’t cause my face to itch. Now after trying it, I can say that I’m well-pleased… On to the review!

I’ll begin with a swatch of it against my fav ElishaCoy Gold Mineral BB.

Freshly applied…

(From Left -> Right: ElishaCoy Gold Mineral BB, BRTC Gold Caviar BB)

About an hour later…

(From Left -> Right: ElishaCoy Gold Mineral BB, BRTC Gold Caviar BB)

What I like about it?

Doesn’t irritate my skin.

Neither does it cause any breakouts for me, although I’ve read about bloggers breaking out with this BB cream.

Has moisturising properties which is good for my dehydrated skin. I love the dewy finish that it gives!

Medium coverage. It was able to cover my dark circles pretty well.

Although it might seem darker, it was actually a good match for my skin tone. It also imparts this healthy glow on my face.

The texture was slightly thicker than the usual BB creams, but it was easier to spread than the other 2 BRTC BB creams.

As it can be seen by comparing the 2 photos above, this BB cream doesn’t really oxidize on me to give weird greyish or ashy tones.

Cons

Not much oil-control. Hence, those with oily skin might want to stay away from this.

Might not suit those with fair skin.

Rating: I’ll give this a 4 out of 5, which puts it on par with ElishaCoy’s Premium Gold BB! Finally found another BB cream which is suitable for me 🙂

Purchase?

YES, definitely. Already noted it down with lotsa asterisk on my pending Gmarket shopping list. *grins*

BRTC has actually upgraded this to a SPF 50 BB cream so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it’ll be as good, if not, better than the SPF 20.

For more information, you might wanna visit the BRTC Store HERE

P.S. I just realised that this is given a rating of 4.6 out of 5 on MakeUpAlley!

My Scheming Beauty Marigold Extract Mask Review

Standard

The sheet mask fever never ends eh? Similar to My Beauty Diary, My Scheming Beauty also originates from Taiwan. Scrutinize the image below,  and you’ll see the lady ‘looking’ at you with the friggin’ scary hollows… eeks!!

Description

Marigold Extract Mask contains high amount of carotene which maintains moisture, cleans and relaxes skin, balances skin PH value, mends damaged skin. It can easily be absorbed by our skin and restrain oil secretion. Acerola and mulberry extracts which were added in the mask comprises abundant Vitamin A, B1, and C, which penetrates thoroughly the bottom of skin and turn your face to bright and white skin.

Ingredients: Xanthan Gum, Glycerin, Marigold Extract, 1,3-Butylene Glycol, Acerola Extract, Sodium PCA, Sodium Hyaluronat, Methyl Paraben,Sorbeth-30, Methylisothiazolinone, Water.

Marigold extract is listed as the 3rd ingredient so I guess it’s quite appropriate to be known as a Marigold Extract Mask.

My experience

My skin was rather irritated so I was hoping that some marigold would help calm it. I have no idea how marigold smells like but the mask was lightly scented which came as a relief for me, as  I was expecting some kind of strong floral scent. It was so soaked with essence that it was dripping when I was putting on the mask. The sheet was also rather thin, somewhat similar to My Beauty Diary’s, which will fit snugly on the face.

The holes for the eyes was rounder and fits better but the section below the nose and upper lip area was again, too wide for me. I’ll mention again that I’m super paranoid about tasting weird stuff from the mask, albeit Marigold in this case. I might just trim off the excess the next time…

Anyways, I was glad that there wasn’t any tingling sensation experienced during the whole masking session, automatically putting this mask above the 50% mark on my scoreboard.

The essence might be a bit sticky at first but easily absorbed after some patting. Although I’ll still give it a light rinse after removing the mask.

Skin feels supple and a little brighter after use. It managed to calm my skin a little although it was itching again after I washed off the essence. ARGH… Marigold, I should have left you on my face! I also noticed a slight reduction in sebum production for a few hours; another plus point.

Overall, I’ll give this mask a 3 out of 5.

Repurchase? I doubt I’ll repurchase as hydrosols might be a better option for calming down the skin.

Quick Review:Silk Whitia Whitening and Moisturizing Mask

Standard

I have no idea but this Silk Whitia mask smells like towelettes too?? It was also soaked with essence and I nearly got it in my eye this time. Anyways, I was glad that this mask didn’t irritate my skin too although it says that it is not to be used on sensitive skin.

Results: Skin felt supple after use. BUT… I thought it wasn’t hydrating for a moisturizing mask. There wasn’t any significant whitening too. If I had to choose between this and the Anti-Oxidation Whitening Mask. I would definitely go for the Anti-Oxidation Whitening Mask.

Repurchase?

Nope. I like it that it does not irritate my skin but I don’t think it works well as a dual effect mask.

Silk Whitia Anti-Oxidation Whitening Mask

Standard

Yes, I’ve read so much about it and I finally got a few Silk Whitia masks while Sasa was having 50% off some months back.

no-nonsense, clinical-looking pack of mask

Scent

The first thing that came to my mind when I took a whiff of it? TOWELETTES. Yes, those that are provided in Chinese restaurants. It wasn’t that overpowering though…

Mask Texture

The mask was about 2 times thicker than My Scheming Beauty’s, and My Beauty Diary’s.

Soaked-full of essence!! Essence was dripping from the mask when I took it out of the packet. However, the mask was found to be soaked unevenly as the essence was dripping from the sides of the mask but the forehead area felt a little dry.

Size

No good. The fit wasn’t good for me cuz erm, my face is kinda erm…, longer than average. :X  It fell short of about 1cm at my forehead and the mask was too wide. It went beyond my hairline at the side. One thing that I really dislike about the cut of the mask is that the area covering the area between the nose and upper lip was too BROAD. It covered my upper lip too! Eeks…I dun know about you ladies, but I’m really paranoid about tasting and swallowing the essence from the mask! ><

On the whole…

This is the first whitening sheet mask that I’ve ever used and I’m glad that it didn’t irritate my skin although it contains Vitamin C and smelled like towelettes. Results wise, I would say that my skin did become a little brighter, not very significant though.

My skin also felt more supple but this mask isn’t hydrating enough. Although some people do not like to wash off the essence but I do! I always splash my face with water after every masking even though other masks require you to pat in the excess essence. So I don’t really mind that extra step required for this mask! 🙂

Repurchase?

Probably!

P.S. I know I said that I was inclined towards clean and green skincare but err… I haven’t found a suitable alternative to sheet masks… :X
